Discover Malta

Known often as the ‘open air museum of the Mediterranean’, Malta is the largest of the five islands that make up the Maltese Archipelago. Rich in history, culture, sun, sea, folklore, nightlife and dining, the islands have long been a popular vacation destination for holiday-makers who want a little bit of everything while surrounded by the idyllic lifestyle that constitutes this Mediterranean haven.

Malta lies about 60 miles south of Sicily and 160 miles north of Libya – a central location that has created the delightful hotchpotch of cultures influences, architectural styles and nuances that make the islands so eclectic today. The islands’ last occupiers were the British, who granted Malta independence in 1964. However the greatest and most unique influences were left by the Knights of St John, to whom the islands were donated in 1530. The Knights reigned supreme over Malta and Gozo for 270 years, building magnificent churches and monuments, as well as the capital city of Valletta – today a bustling city complete with high street shops, eateries and numerous sightseeing opportunities.
